I ran into these magazine covers while doing research for another class. This is a magazine by Marc Ecko the clothing designer and graffiti artist. I really like that he stuck to his street art roots for these covers. As a graffiti artist I love seeing real graffiti used in commercial applications.

I'm still not sure what exactly to add on here. I think the sketch thing is boring because I wouldn't be able to tell you why I draw things the way I do. My sketching process is like Nike's motto I "Just Do It." I have decided to start posting different things from where I pull inspiration for my work and other random things that I like/dislike. So without further ado here's a picture of a tattoo one of my tattoo artist friends did on himself....on his own hand. It's a very simple sugar skull but the placement makes it anything but...

This week I ran into this extremely sexist ad online. It was part of a slideshow compiled by CNN on crappy ads used in the past. I think it was titled "What Were We Thinking." What really attracted me to this ad was how blunt it was. We still have sexist ads nowadays but they are played off as a joke, and not nearly as straight to the point as this one. Another shocker was the patron of the ad, Kellogg's! They are supposed to be a moral, family oriented company nowadays. What is crazier is that the ad is meant for woman. It's supposed to convince women that if they take these vitamins and clean more, they will become more attractive to their husbands. Well I couldn't determine what the font is, probably because its hand-drawn. I also noticed the underlining which is a huge mistake by current design standards.

This week I added pics of a few tattoos I've done recently. I really enjoy this medium and is the reason I'm seeking an art degree. I constantly turn to tattoo flash and actual tattoo photographs for ideas on projects. The pics were all taken with a cell phone so theres no telling what you'll get in regards to white balance...or anything else for that matter. Thats all I have for this week. Thanks for stopping by.

I ran into this ad online this week . This ad promotes the brands car part affordability. Assuring you that it is easy and affordable to fix your car after your wife wrecks it, because "women hit things." Besides being extremely sexist, I liked the composition. It has a really strong grid. I also like that the bottom box with the text is just about the same height as the negative space above the car. I tried finding out what typeface this was but had no luck.

This week I uploaded a photo of an ornament that we have at work and a sketch. The ornament is made out of wood and it looks like raw Ramen noodles in a cup. I dislike it but thought it would make an interesting photo if taken from a close distance. The sketch is of my co-workers, who asked me to draw them as super heros. They asked me to draw them with huge boobs and a cape. I was thinking of further developing the characters and making a mock comic book cover.

Hello this week i added a page from my sketch book and a photo of my dad. The sketch is just filled with random objects. I took the photo of my dad outside of the Illinois State Capitol building in Springfield. I really liked the photo and decided to share it. I really like the strong vertical lines the water creates. Thats all for this week, thanks for stopping by.

9/16
I was going through some old graffiti magazines and i found a few pieces that I really liked and decided to share them. All of these are by Cope 2 the legendary NYC graffiti artist. Cope 2 has been at it since 1979 and still going. The first one is a "throwie" that caught my attention because of the lettering and color choices. The second one is a wildstyle piece. Although most wildstyle pieces are impossible to read they are always visually appealing. The third one is another throwie and my favorite of the three. The simplicity and near perfect execution are amazing. The paint can strokes are all even and there is no drip at all. It almost seems as if this piece was painted. Well that's all I have for this week, thanks for stopping by.

IDK
This week I wanted to do this blog a little bit different and decided to post photos instead of sketches. The pic on the left I took in the D wing in the seating area under the staircase. I was sitting there and decided it would make a cool shot. I like all the hard diagonal lines and how they get broken up by the edge of the staircase. The top one is a pic of a tattoo I did this week on a friend of mine. I really like working with the Allegro typeface. It's a very clean and readable font.

blah blah...cool hip hop lingo...blah
First post...ha! Well I wasn't sure what kind of sketches we're supposed to upload on here, so I added two. I'm guessing both are way off but that's alright, first post right? I wasn't sure what exactly to sketch, so I did what I always do...draw random stuff. First image is of a poor sucker that forgot to pay his taxes before he died. Word on the streets is that the IRS has a field office in heaven, next to Starbucks. Now he's getting his left wing repossessed. In case you're questioning my sanity, I work front desk at a hotel and have plenty of time to draw all sorts of crazy shenanigans like so. The second one is just random tattoo flash sorta drawings. That's pretty much it, thanks for stopping by.
